Tourmaline – The Stone of Reconciliation

Tourmaline is one of the most commonly found semi-precious stones in the world. Its wide distribution makes it extremely popular and used in the jewelry industry.

The largest deposits of tourmaline in the world are in Brazil. Mining of the mineral in the country dates back over 500 years. Initially, the crystal was mined in search of gold. People believed that tourmaline was emerald, and the discovered stones were sent to Portugal to be made into jewelry for royalty.

The first records of the discovery of the semi-precious stone date back to the early 16th century when Dutch traders near Italy found the crystal. Its name comes from the term "turmali,” which was used as a universal name for all colored stones. The reason for this lay in the traders’ inability to distinguish it from other crystals. It was often mistaken for rubies.

The exceptional durability of the stone is evidenced by artifacts found in China that remain intact to this day.

Different cultures brought different meanings to tourmaline over the centuries. Literary records from the 18th century indicate that the crystal was a suitable talisman for actors and creative people. In India, it inspired a sense of reality in people prone to excessive daydreaming.

In modern times, tourmaline continues to be used by many African tribes as a talisman that protects from trouble.

Varieties

Tourmaline’s color comes from the iron and titanium it contains. They give it delicate blue-green shades. Manganese in its composition creates red and yellowish highlights.

Pink Tourmaline

The stone not only carries the color of love but also its energizing vibration. It is often worn as a talisman that encourages warm feelings. Although there is no scientific evidence, healers claim that among its abilities is the capability to regenerate and refresh the skin.

Green Tourmaline

This variety is recommended for people who lack patience and determination. Its calming energy helps rethink situations and extract the maximum from them. Use this stone to encourage new friendships and attract a romantic partner.

Black Tourmaline

Black tourmaline is perhaps one of the most common hues of the crystal. It is considered a protective stone with strong shielding abilities. It can capture negative energies.

Mystical and Healing Properties

If you have problems with the digestive system, immune system, or bones, tourmaline is the perfect healing stone to aid in their treatment. It is also useful for strengthening the bone structure and teeth.

Holistic practitioners use the crystal to heal stress and psychological traumas. Since its essence is coded with love for humanity, it is often used by therapists or consultants.

This is due to its ability to carry unconditional love and friendship. It is also known as the "Stone of Reconciliation" for its property of breaking down negative and destructive feelings in people.

Protector of the heart and considered an aphrodisiac, tourmaline promotes mental flexibility, and inner peace, and relieves panic attacks.

Interpreted as one of the most receptive stones, its crystalline structure has acalming effect and encourages spiritual communication. It is often used in meditation as a magnet for inner peace.

Zodiac Signs

Similar to opal, tourmaline is considered the birthstone for those born in October. It is regarded as the guardian of the eighth wedding anniversary and is often used as a gift for families entering this period of their relationships.

Geminis feel magnetically attracted to the beauty of this stone. It is associated with the planets Saturn, Venus, and Mars.

Astrologers believe that if a person dreams of tourmaline, the vision is a precursor to potential danger, for which they should be especially vigilant.
